DAY 1: Depart home gateway city to Beijing
DAY 2: Beijing
Featured Excursion: Arrive in Beijing and be greeted by a Uniworld representative who will escort you to your hotel.
DAY 3: Beijing
Featured Excursion: Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Summer Palace, and Peking Duck feast
Start your day in Tiananmen Square—the heart of Beijing—before visiting the Forbidden City, the largest and most complete ancient imperial palace in the world. Then continue on to the Summer Palace. Top off your fabulous day with an authentic Peking Duck dinner. (BB, L, D)
DAY 4: Beijing
Featured Excursion: The Great Wall, the Ming Tombs, and the Beijing Opera
Visit the sites of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and then walk along China’s Great Wall—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and truly one of the man-made wonders of the world. On your way back to Beijing, travel the Sacred Way, home to the remnants of the Ming Tombs. End your day with a magnificent Beijing Opera performance. (BB, L, D)
DAY 5: Beijing, fly to Xi’an
Featured Excursion: Hutongs tour with home-hosted lunch and dumpling dinner
Ride in a traditional rickshaw for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Hutongs—the ancient alleyways of the old residential area of Beijing—and enjoy lunch with a local family. Then fly to Xi’an, where you’ll check into the hotel before indulging in a delicious dumpling dinner. (BB, L, D)
DAY 6: Xi’an
Featured Excursion: Terra Cotta Warriors, City Wall, and Tang Dynasty dinner and show
Xi’an is the site of one of the 20th-century’s biggest archaeological finds—the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses—which you’ll visit along with Xi’an’s ancient City Wall. In the evening, indulge in a Tang Dynasty dinner and cultural show. (BB, L, D)
DAY 7: Xi’an, fly to Chongqing, cruising the Yangtze River
Featured Excursion: Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Chongqing Zoo
Visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, an ancient holy place for Buddhists. Then fly to Chongqing, where you’ll stop for a glimpse of the giant pandas at the city’s zoo before boarding an elegant Victoria Cruises ship to begin your journey down the Yangtze. (BB, L, D)
DAY 8: Cruising the Yangtze River
Featured Excursion: Fengdu, Wanzhou, or Shibaozhai
Then visit either the “Ghost City” of Fengdu or the new relocation village for families who have moved as a result of the Three Gorges Dam. An excursion to Wanzhou or Shibaozhai may be substituted due to river conditions. (BB, L, Captain’s Welcome Reception, D)
DAY 9: Cruising the Yangtze River
Featured Excursion: Lesser Gorges
Cruise the enchanting Lesser Gorges of either the Daning River or Shennong Stream. Then sail through the amazing Three Gorges Dam ship locks. (BB, L, Captain’s Farewell Dinner)
DAY 10: Yichang, fly to Shanghai
Featured Excursion: Three Gorges Dam
Visit the site of the Three Gorges Dam before disembarking in Yichang. Fly to Shanghai and enjoy a delicious buffet dinner at your hotel. (BB, L, D)
DAY 11: Shanghai
Featured Excursion: Shanghai city tour and Shanghai Acrobats performance
Visit Old Town, the Bund, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, and Old Shanghai Museum on your Shanghai city tour. Enjoy a dim sum lunch and then, in the evening, be awed by the incredible Shanghai Acrobats. (BB, L, D)
DAY 12: Depart Shanghai
Transfer to the airport for your return flight home, or continue your tour with one of our popular optional extensions or stay an extra day or two in Shanghai. (BB)
